Rajasthan Royals are going to miss their captain Sanju Samson in their upcoming match against Royal Challengers Bangalore on April 24. Unfortunately, he’s dealing with an injury that has kept him off the field. The team confirmed his absence in a statement, mentioning that he’s still healing from a side injury he got while batting in a game against Delhi Capitals.
The Royals made it clear that Samson will be staying back at the team’s base with the medical staff as he focuses on getting better. They plan to take things step by step, assessing his recovery game by game to see when he can return to action in IPL 2025.
“As he continues with his recovery, he won’t be traveling to Bangalore for the match against RCB,” the statement shared by Sportstar said. Samson had to leave a previous game because of the injury, and because of that, Riyan Parag took over as captain when they faced Lucknow Super Giants.
Samson first hurt his finger earlier in the tournament, which meant he wasn’t fully participating in the first three matches. He had to play just as a batter, while Parag led the team until Samson could come back to captain the squad. Sadly, just when he was getting back in the groove, this side injury hit and now keeps him from playing against Lucknow Super Giants.
It’s a tough break for the Royals, who are struggling a bit this season, sitting eighth out of ten teams with just two wins out of eight matches played so far. Losing their captain is a big blow, and it certainly adds to the challenges they’re already facing in the competition. All eyes will be on how Samson recovers and when he might be able to rejoin the team.
