Sanju Samson, the Indian team’s wicketkeeper-batter, won’t be joining the Chennai Super Kings (CSK). CSK doesn’t seem interested anymore and Rajasthan Royals (RR) aren’t bothered about the trade talks. So, it looks like a move this season is unlikely.
Apparently, Sanju Samson asked the Royals to release him after IPL 2025. They had retained him for Rs 18 crore before last year’s auction. Samson played only 9 out of 14 games because of a side issue, with Riyan Parag filling in as captain. Royals can release him or trade him to another team.
Sanju Samson’s IPL 2025 and Rajasthan Royals
Sanju Samson’s IPL journey began with Rajasthan Royals in 2013. He played with them for 3 seasons before moving to Delhi team during RR’s 2 year break. He came back to Royals in 2018 and was retained before 2022 and 2024 auctions.

Before 2021 season, RR made Samson captain. With him as captain, the team finished runners up in 2022. but Royals haven’t been doing well lately, missed playoffs in 2 out of last 3 IPL seasons.
Samson’s IPL 2025 didn’t go as planned because of injuries. He scored 285 runs with a strike rate of 140.39. He started the season as Impact Player but an abdominal injury against Delhi Capitals made him miss 5 games. The team finished 9th in the points table.
CSK’s Interest in Sanju Samson Has Cooled Off Before IPL 2026
CSK was thinking of signing Samson. Especially with MS Dhoni’s future uncertain. But the franchise has cooled off on the idea.
A CSK person told RevSportz that they aren’t talking with Rajasthan Royals about Samson. They called the trade talk “all rumors” and said nothing is planned right now.
“No, we aren’t having any talk with Rajasthan Royals about him at this moment,” the CSK person told RevSportz. “It’s all rumors. I can’t say about what happens but now, nothing.”
Sanju Samson Is in India’s Team for Asia Cup 2025
Sanju Samson will be India’s wicketkeeper-batter for 2025 Asia Cup. Not sure if he will start. Shubman Gill is back as vice-captain and will probably open with Abhishek Sharma, which means Samson might miss out.
The team will probably have Tilak Varma at number 3 and captain Suryakumar Yadav at 4. Samson hasn’t done well batting at 4 or lower in T20Is, so Jitesh Sharma might take the keeper-batter spot later in the order.
India start their Asia Cup 2025 campaign against United Arab Emirates (UAE) in Dubai on September 10. They will play Pakistan and Oman in the other group stage matches.
