According to Cricbuzz, Bangladesh’s star all-rounder Shakib al Hasan is in the clear after passing his bowling action reassessment. This follows a few months of being banned because of a questionable bowling action, which led to a lot of complaints.
Shakib failed the test twice, but it seems he’s finally gotten his bowling action approved.
This news is a huge relief for Shakib, who was left out of Bangladesh’s Champions Trophy team because the selectors didn’t want him as just a batter.
Bangladesh lost their Champions Trophy matches against India and New Zealand. Their last group game against Pakistan was cancelled because of rain.
Being banned from bowling meant Shakib couldn’t play in the Champions Trophy, which he had planned as his farewell to international cricket.
His exclusion from the Champions Trophy team might have meant the end of his ODI career, especially with the next big tournament being the 2027 ODI World Cup, by which time he’ll be 40.
After failing twice, Shakib finally got lucky on his third try and passed his latest bowling action test in England.
The news is correct (passing the bowling test), and I am clear to bowl again, Shakib told Cricbuzz.
Shakib’s bowling action was first questioned during a County Championship game for Surrey against Somerset in September.
The England Cricket Board banned him after an outside review said his action was illegal.
After being banned from bowling in major domestic and international cricket, Shakib failed a bowling action test for the second time in January.
This recent independent re-assessment of Shakib’s action happened in December at the Sri Ramachandra Centre for Sports Science in Chennai.
So, the player’s current ban from bowling in international cricket after the first independent review at Loughborough University in the UK still stands, the Bangladesh Cricket Board said in a statement in January.
Shakib last played in the Abu Dhabi T10 in November and hasn’t played cricket since.
