Shardul Thakur bowled 16 overs in the first Test, 6 in England’s first innings and the rest in their second. Then he didn’t bowl in the next two games. When he came back for the fourth Test, he bowled only 5 overs on Day 2. Jasprit Bumrah bowled 13 overs, while Mohammed Siraj and Anshul Kamboj bowled 10 each.
Is Thakur being used enough as a bowler? Has he spoken with captain Shubman Gill about it? Thakur says not bowling often affects his rhythm but the captain makes these decisions.
In the first game, Gill said there wasn’t much opportunity for me to bowl. The captain decides who bowls; the player doesn’t have much say. In this game the game’s flow allowed for a couple of overs but there are three days left. I hope to bowl more, Thakur told reporters after Day 2 of the 4th Test in Manchester.
Rhythm is hard when you don’t know how much or when you’ll bowl. I’ll use my experience in my bowling. That’s all I can do, he said.
India scored 358 and then bowled out England for 225 in 46 overs with only 2 wickets down.
Thakur said the ball wasn’t moving as much as it was in the first session when it troubled the Indian batters.

The bowlers looked for swing, hoping it would be like the morning session but it didn’t happen, Thakur said.
Thakur added that they could have been more patient.
We could have been better with the new ball. We tried to hold back runs but they kept coming. It wasn’t hard for the bowlers. We could have been more patient with our line and length but we weren’t, he said.
