Shubman Gill, elated after his first Test win as India captain, said this will be a memory he will treasure when he retires. At 25 years and 301 days, Gill is the youngest Indian captain to win a Test abroad, beating Sunil Gavaskar’s record of 26 years and 202 days.
In a BCCI video, Gill said, This is something I will cherish forever; when I retire, this will be one of my best memories. Gill took the last England batter in the final session of the second Test on Sunday, to seal India’s 336-run win, their first at Edgbaston in nine attempts.
Gill said, I was supposed to take the last catch of this match and I am very happy we finished it. He added, There are three more games to go; a quick turnaround but it’s good we have the momentum. Gill also had a good batting performance, scoring over 400 runs, including his first double hundred.
He said, Everyone contributed with both bat and ball is a big plus. It’s great when different people step up and perform at different times. That’s what makes a champion team and that was great for us.

India’s vice-captain Rishabh Pant said the team wants to improve and break away from the past. He said, The last time we were here the job at Edgbaston wasn’t done so I am very happy we could do it this time. We always discuss how we can grow as a team and move beyond our past performances, bring this team together and take it to the next level; that’s what we want.
