Shubman Gill, India’s Test captain, said the fielders are having trouble seeing the ball mainly when they are positioned square of the wicket. He hopes they’ll do better in the upcoming match against England at Edgbaston.
India dropped 7 catches at Headley and that cost them. Gill hopes their fielding will improve and the players will have an easier time seeing the ball.
Yashasvi Jaiswal dropped 4 catches in 2 innings and won’t be fielding at gully in Edgbaston.
It’s harder to see the ball when fielders are positioned square of the wicket, Gill said at the pre-match press conference. Both our team and the other team have issues with stands or other things in the background making it hard to spot the ball. We know it’s tough.
Gill said, It’s not common to miss so many catches in a few games. Hopefully it won’t happen again.
The change in Dukes balls, like getting softer after 40 overs, is a big challenge for India in England.
Gill has been talking to experienced players like KL Rahul, Rishabh Pant and Ravindra Jadeja who have been to England many times to understand how Dukes balls have changed over the last few years.

At Headley, India could have used a second spinner on Day 5. England finished the 371-run chase in no time and took a 1-0 lead in the series.
India needed their fast bowlers to take wickets during the chase but only Jasprit Bumrah could do so. By the time the new ball was available the game was almost over.
I have spoken to players who played in the 2018-19 series and they said the balls were a bit different then, Gill said.
