Jos Buttler, the former captain of England’s white-ball team, is currently making waves as he plays for the Gujarat Titans in the 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL). He joined the Titans during the mega auction for a whopping 15.75 crore rupees. At 34 years old, Buttler’s performance has been impressive lately. So far in this IPL season, he has played three matches and already scored two half-centuries! In a recent game against the Royal Challengers Bangalore at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on April 2, he lit up the field with an unbeaten 73 runs off just 39 balls.
Buttler has a lot of admiration for his captain at Gujarat Titans, Shubman Gill. He believes that Gill, who currently holds the top spot in the ICC ODI batter rankings, is on his way to becoming the face of Indian cricket. Buttler shared his thoughts, saying, “Look, Shubman is a star, isn’t he? He is going to be the poster boy of Indian cricket. I think he is a fantastic player. I have really enjoyed it.
He also mentioned how much he appreciates getting to know Gill better now that they’re on the same team. One of the great things with the IPL is that I’ve played against these guys! But now I get to watch him up close and be on my team. I really like watching him practice and learning things about how he goes about it. He’s led the team brilliantly, has a great rapport with everyone, and shares a strong connection with our coach. His passion on the field really stands out, and he keeps a cool head. He’s doing a fantastic job as a leader, Buttler added.
Shubman Gill has already made a name for himself as the leading run-scorer in the history of the Gujarat Titans. The franchise picked him up before the IPL 2022 mega auctions, and he’s been a key part of the team ever since. After Hardik Pandya moved to the Mumbai Indians in November 2023, Gill was appointed as the captain over Rashid Khan, which speaks volumes of his impact.
Not only does Gill captain the Gujarat Titans, but he has also taken the reins of the Indian men’s cricket team in five T20 international matches. He made his debut as a captain against Zimbabwe in July 2024, and that same month he became the vice-captain for India’s white-ball team during the away series against Sri Lanka. He kept this role as he prepared for the ICC Champions Trophy in 2025. With his leadership qualities and talent on display, it’s exciting to see how far Gill will go in his cricketing career.
