The Zimbabwe series ends on September 7th, just 2 days before the Asia Cup starts in the UAE. The Asian Cricket Council has set August 30th as the deadline to announce Asia Cup squads. Despite their recent poor show in international tournaments and an early exit from the 2024 T20 World Cup (failed to reach the super 12), Sri Lanka is one of the favorites for the Asia Cup.
They won the Asia Cup the last time it was played in the T20 format with Dasun Shanaka as captain. Former Pakistani cricketer Basit Ali even sees them as India’s biggest competitor.
Sri Lanka will start their Asia Cup campaign against Bangladesh on September 13th in a Group B match. Their fans are hoping to see if they can repeat the previous success.
