Suryakumar Yadav of Mumbai Indians has forged a new record in the book of IPL history by scoring 25 or more runs in 11 matches continuously. He did this while playing against Rajasthan Royals in Jaipur on May 1.
Prior to such an achievement, he was tied at 10 matches with Robin Uthappa, who managed to achieve the same with 25 or more runs in 10 consecutive innings back in 2014 with Kolkata Knight Riders. Following them include Steve Smith, Sai Sudharsan, and Virat Kohli, each one scoring at least 9 innings in succession.
Suryakumar made his 25 runs in just 11 balls against Rajasthan, accomplishing it in his typically glorious style. On the last ball of the 16th over he hit a scoop over deep fine leg after a low full toss from Maheesh Theekshana. This season, his least has been 26 off Sunrisers Hyderabad, playing on April 17.
Before the same match with Rajasthan, he had three half-centuries at a breathtaking strike-rate of 171.15, thus indicating consistent form in T20 cricket. He was finishing the inning with an unbeaten score of 48 off 23 balls, same as Hardik Pandya, enabling their side to end 217/2.
During their break, Rohit Sharma spoke about how the team always starts strong. He said they saw a pitch that was very good for batting and were intent on hitting straight. He has faith that their players would put up a good resistance to the target they set and reiterated thesame with quite an experience in his book.
