Sunday, September 7, was not a good day for the South Africa National Cricket Team as their captain Temba Bavuma got injured.
He got hurt during the last ODI match against England National Cricket Team at The Rose Bowl in Southampton.
Temba Bavuma Hurt His Left Calf
South Africa chose to bowl first. Things didn’t go as planned as England scored a lot of runs and ended with 414/5.
The Proteas were worried when they found out Temba Bavuma was injured during the first part of the match.
He left the field because he strained his left calf. This is the second time he has been injured in a match recently. He also had a hamstring injury in June during the ICC World Test Championship final against Australia.
South Africa is worried about their captain’s injuries as they will start their new ICC World Test Championship in five weeks.
He has had many injuries in his career and only played in two of the three matches against Australia to avoid getting too tired. He needs to get in better shape if he wants to do well in the ICC World Cup 2027.
Shaun Pollock Says South Africa Wasn’t Sharp
The English batters scored a lot of runs against the South African bowlers and the players didn’t seem very focused.
Jamie Smith scored 62 runs and gave England a good start and Jos Buttler scored 62 runs.
Jacob Bethell scored 110 runs and Joe Root scored his 19th ODI hundred. During the break Shaun Pollock told Sky Sports that South Africa wasn’t sharp. He said:
They didn’t seem very focused. They dropped two catches and had 19 wide balls. South Africa wasn’t at their best.
They don’t have Kagiso Rabada, Lungi Ngidi and Marco Jansen playing but they should still be better.
Temba Bavuma Said They’ve Been Playing Well
Earlier Temba Bavuma said they have been playing well and working together as a team. He said:
We are going to bowl first; it’s early and the pitch might help a bit. Wiaan Mulder is playing again after being sick. We’ve been playing good cricket and working together.
