It’s important to note that Indian male players like Kohli aren’t allowed to play in foreign leagues due to the policies of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). This is not the case for female players, who can participate in international leagues, opening up more opportunities for them. The BCCI keeps a tight grip on Indian players participating in overseas competitions to maintain the importance of the Indian Premier League (IPL) and to manage player fitness and schedule. They believe allowing participation in foreign leagues could weaken the IPL’s brand and popularity.
The situation is different for women’s cricket since there isn’t an equally strong domestic T20 league comparable to the IPL.
