Reports have circulated to suggest that Mohammed Shami may find himself omitted from the India squad going for the Test series against England. The selectors are to meet on Saturday, and it appears to be the fitness concerns that are worrying them. Express Sports says the BCCI medical staff is not satisfied with his recovery post-surgery, which is raising doubts among the selectors as to whether he is able to bowl long spells in England.
The team management is on the lookout for fitter fast bowlers who can bowl long spells throughout all five Tests once Jasprit Bumrah is rested for at least one game to manage his workload. But this leaves a cloud hanging over Shami’s place, and the selectors are even mulling bringing in some fresh faces for the tour.
Shami has not had a great IPL season either, bagging only six wickets for Sunrisers Hyderabad in nine games, and with an economy rate that was on the higher side.

The selection committee is expected to pick Arshdeep Singh and Anshul Kamboj on merits of their performances in domestic cricket. Arshdeep is a left-arm bowler and can swing the ball, which can be useful for India in England. Kamboj impressed in Ranji Trophy with 34 wickets in just 12 innings, showing he can really threaten the English batsmen with his accuracy and movement.
The Test squad for India will be announced at 12 noon on Saturday, May 24, at the press conference.
