MS Dhoni declared his intention to not continue as the captain of the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the next IPL season, the captaincy will pass to Ruturaj Gaikwad, who spent the whole year injured and therefore could not captain in IPL 2025. Dhoni broke the news after CSK’s last league game against the Gujarat Titans on Sunday at the Narendra Modi Stadium. Unexpectedly, CSK managed to beat the then top-ranked Gujarat by 83 runs.
CSK, however, had a tough time during the long months of the season under Dhoni’s leadership and ended up really last in the points’ table. Besides that big win on Sunday against Top Gujarat, his team recorded only 4 wins out of 14 matches. “We have some gaps to fill, but when Ruturaj comes back next season we want him to step into a team where he just needs to plug in one spot in the playing XI without worrying too much.” Dhoni added post the match.
