A historic victory at the 2025 Champions Trophy has prompted the return of cricketers from India in various batches from Dubai. India defeated New Zealand in the final of the glamour event to become record third-time winners-most in the history of this tournament.
Varun Chakaravarthy and Ravindra Jadeja were in Chennai late on Monday after having done a fine job for the team on its way to an unbeaten title run.
Jadeja took five wickets in as many matches, and in the title clash, he sealed India’s four-wicket win by hitting the winning boundary against New Zealand with one over to spare.
On the other hand, Chakaravarthy was a late replacement in the squad for injured Yashasvi Jaiswal, and then he had to wait for additional two games before playing his first Champions Trophy match with a bang, grabbing five wickets against New Zealand in India’s comfortable win in the final group match.
He was the second-highest wicket-taker for India in the competition alongside pace bowler Mohammed Shami with nine wickets.
The two, however, will meet next at IPL 2025 starting on March 22. Jadeja will play for the five-time Chennai Super Kings, and Chakaravarthy will lead the title defence for the Kolkata Knight Riders.
To put rest to all speculations regarding ODI retirement, Jadeja recently updated a story on Instagram saying, “No unnecessary rumors, thanks.”
Similar speculations were rife regarding the ODI futures of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli.
Rohit reiterated that he is not going away, quashing any such talk about the Champions Trophy final being his last ODI for India.
The next point is to ask whether the World Cup-winning captain is eyeing the next ODI World Cup scheduled over two years from now.
