Virat Kohli has been one of the greatest cricketers that India have given to the world. He is arguably the best all-format batter in modern-day cricket. But it’s been a while since the former Indian captain has featured in domestic Indian cricket. But it looks like fans might see him playing in the next edition of the Ranji Trophy for Delhi.
According to the latest release by the Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA), they have added Virat Kohli, along with star keeper Rishabh Pant and pacer Navdeep Saini, to the probable list of players for the upcoming Ranji Trophy 2024-25 edition. Senior Indian pacer Ishant Sharma is one big name to be left out. Ishant played the last edition of the tournament.
Ranji Trophy 2024-25: Virat Kohli and Rishabh Pant included in Delhi’s probable list
The DDCA released the probable list of 84 players, with Virat Kohli being the biggest name. It indicates a possible return for the champion batter in the Ranji Trophy after a long wait. The tournament is set to commence on October 11, as Delhi, which is part of Elite Group, will lock horns with Chandigarh in their opening game of the season.
On the other hand, the first test of the three-match test series between India and New Zealand is scheduled to start on October 16. That makes it impossible for both Virat Kohli and Rishabh Pant to play for Delhi in the upcoming Ranji Trophy 2024-25, but one thing is sure: their inclusion in the probable list has created buzz among the fans.
The DDCA’s release quoted, “A fitness test for the selected players will take place on September 26, 2024. Players currently on international duty are exempt from this fitness test.” Virat lastly played in the Ranji Trophy in the 2012-13 season, while this has been the first time since 2018 that he has been named in the probable list for Delhi. However, he can feature in a few games once the New Zealand series is over, as India will travel to South Africa for the T20I series after that.
