When Kohli was in school, he often used to dream aloud and share with his teachers that he wanted to be a cricketer. A decent student, he loved science and math, but cricket was his true love. Even with his demanding schedule, Kohli managed to perform reasonably well in school. His teachers from Vishal Bharti Public School, New Delhi, remember him fondly, sharing how proud they felt seeing his confidence.
Kohli would almost boast, “Ma’am, I will be the next Sachin Tendulkar for the Indian team.” Tendulkar has always been a huge source of inspiration for him, and Kohli eclipsed Tendulkar’s record for most ODI centuries earlier this year.
He said once, “Tendulkar is perfection when it comes to batting. But I will never be as good as him.” For him, it was a huge moment when he equaled Tendulkar’s tally of 49 ODI centuries. “It’s emotional for me. I know where I come from, and it means a lot to get this recognition from him,” he had said.

Further, he has been victorious with India in the 2011 ODI World Cup, 2024 T20 World Cup, and Champions Trophies in 2013 and 2025.
