Virender Sehwag, the former Indian opener, spoke about a hot cricket topic: workload management. He thinks it’s important, especially for fast bowlers.
Workload management became a big talking point after the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy. Some fans and former players wondered why Jasprit Bumrah played only three games while Mohammed Siraj played all five tests.
Sehwag shared his views on how important workload management is. He said it’s more important for bowlers, especially fast ones, than for batters.

He said in a video on Sony Sports Network’s social media, I think workload is important, especially for bowlers. I don’t think it’s a problem for batters, because they can play and they don’t have to play too many games anyway. So it’s mainly important for bowlers, especially fast bowlers.
He added, If they’re managed right, they can play longer. It’s important for India that all fast bowlers are in shape. If they’re available for big events like Asia Cup or World Cup, India has a better chance of winning.
There was talk about Bumrah playing in Asia Cup which starts on September 9. But the rumors stopped when he was announced in India’s 15 member squad. Sehwag sees him as a game-changer along with young Abhishek Sharma and Varun Chakravarthy who is known for his tricky spin bowling.
He also said, I think Abhishek Sharma can change a game. Bumrah is always a game-changer. Varun Chakravarthy was very good with his mystery bowling in Champions Trophy and in T20s. So these guys can win matches for India on their own.
Bumrah was the key to India’s win in last year’s T20 World Cup, taking 15 wickets. Overall he has 89 wickets in 70 games at an average of 17.74. Abhishek became famous in T20s after Rohit Sharma retired from that format and left the opening spot open.In 17 games Abhishek has scored 535 runs at 33.43 with a strike rate of 193.84. He has 2 centuries and 2 fifties with a highest score of 135. Chakravarthy has been doing well since Gautam Gambhir became the coach of the Indian team.
After a tough time in the T20 World Cup Chakravarthy worked hard to improve his googly and added some new tricks to his bowling. In 15 T20Is he has taken 33 wickets and is now one of India’s top wicket takers.
In the upcoming Asia Cup India is in Group A with UAE, Pakistan and Oman. India’s first match is on September 10 against UAE. They will play Pakistan on September 14 and Oman on September 19 in Abu Dhabi.
