After scoring his first Test and international century against England in a tough draw at Manchester, Washington Sundar said it was special. He couldn’t explain how unique it felt to get to that milestone in Test cricket.
Sundar had missed centuries against England in 2021 and finally got his moment in this match. He was promoted to number five to save an injured Rishabh Pant and partnered with Ravindra Jadeja for a 203-run stand. That tired out the English team going into the final Test at The Oval where India now has the psychological edge.
Talking to JioHotstar, Sundar said scoring a Test hundred felt special. He said every century is important but this one meant more. He focused on fighting for the whole day after getting to bat at number five and was happy they drew the game.
Sundar said the team wanted to play each ball on its merit in their second innings as the pitch had something for both seamers and spinners.
He said they wanted to be disciplined and give it their all. He felt great after drawing the game and the whole team played well.
Sundar has scored 205 runs in six innings in three Tests, averaging 51.25 with a hundred. He has also taken 7 wickets in five innings at an average of 35.85, his best being 4/22 at Lord’s.
With the bat, Sundar has been a valuable asset for India, scoring 673 runs in 12 matches and 22 innings at an average of 44.86, with a hundred and four fifties. He has 32 wickets at an average of 27.87 and has a bright future.
