What do you think of the West Indies? The world champions. The power hitters. The entertainers.
The diaspora of the champions is over now, but still, they are in the practice of producing the power hitters and entertainers – at least, in the shortest formats.
However, the Caribbean is not a team to be called a unit. Instead, a lot of the West Indian cricketers are involved in the franchise T20 as they have not signed the central contracts.
The major cause for the West Indies’ slump is that their players are not forming a collective unit anymore. Therefore, Cricket West Indies (CWI) is taking the initiative to give out central contracts to the top players and newcomers.

Central contracts payments of 2025-26 season have been made public by the CWI. A total of 15 players have benefited from senior men’s contracts.
The central contracts of 12 players were renewed for the same year. Kraigg Brathwaite, Joshua Da Silva, and Kavem Hodge are the main contractual losers.
Instead, Justin Greaves, Sherfane Rutherford, and Jomel Warrican are the three new entrants to the list of contracts for this season.
As an additional point, CWI has given the start to contracts of three players, namely Jewel Andrew, Jediah Blades, and Johann Layne. In other words, they represent players whose career still has to come further.
What is more, the board has granted to 15 men players academy contracts, among them Jediah Blades.
Academy contracts? Oh, CWI is all for nurturing the young talent. Those given academy contracts are treated to the full access to the coaches, the technical team people and the world-class infrastructure.
