Cricket West Indies (CWI) made a considerable announcement that they would be sending very strong teams to Bangladesh during the tour. The Men in Maroon will be flying to the South Asian country for 6 white-ball games with three ODIs and three T20Is. The player who was the captain of the U19 team, Ackeem Auguste, has now officially been called up for his first ODI and will be replacing the already known experienced player Evin Lewis, who is out due to an injury.
Ackeem Auguste, a 22-year-old batsman from the top order, has played only three T20s till now, with 73 runs, average of 36.5, and a strike rate of 128.07. The tour to Bangladesh is going to be a debacle for him in ODIs as he will be the one for injured batsman Evin Lewis.
Additionally, left-arm spin-bowling all-rounder Khary Pierre has been given a chance again in West Indies’ T20I team for the sake of the visitor’s spin bowling department, and to pillow the West Indies bowling with spin. The main reason for the inclusion of Pierre is that the pitches in Bangladesh are fairly good for spin and thus the tourists can surely challenge the home side with their spin attraction.
Left-handed batsman Alick Athanaze has been included in the squads of both ODI and T20I. On the other hand, the young left-arm fast bowler Ramon Simmonds is part of the T20I squad.
The seasoned hitter Shai Hope continues to be the West Indies’ captain for the forthcoming series in Bangladesh. Conversely, Shamar Joseph, who is out of the present Test series against India as a result of an injury, returns to the ODI and T20I squads. Others, Roston Chase, Keacy Carty, Jason Holder, Jayden Seales, Romario Shepherd, and Gudakesh Motie, are expected to be the main players for the tourists in the series.
