The West Indies will come to play two tests at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad starting October 2. It’s been a one-sided affair lately, with India winning the last nine series in a row. The West Indies last won a series in 2002. Bitterly sad is the fact that the team that ruled cricket during the 70s and the 80s is fighting for survival in Test cricket.
West Indies have been unable to defeat India for 23 years in Test cricket but still hold a lead in the head-to-head record. India have been victorious in 23 of the 100 matches played between the two teams, while the West Indies have won 30. Forty-seven of those matches ended in draws.

Why West Indies And India Might Not Play Again For 100 Years?
It might be that India and West Indies will no longer play the game of cricket after this series, perhaps not until even after 100 years. This is on account of the proposal to make Test cricket a two-tier affair. If that does happen, all the teams will get divided into two: top six teams in one group and bottom six in another. The West Indies may find themselves ranked with the likes of Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and Afghanistan, because of their low ranking and poor performance in Test cricket, with India, Australia, South Africa, New Zealand and England in the upper tier. The final call on which model will see the light of day could be taken after the ongoing FTP which terminates in 2027.
In July this year, Cricket West Indies sought assistance from Clive Lloyd and Brian Lara, after the home team was dismissed for a paltry 27 against Australia, Lara feared that the West Indies could be in the second tier for as long as one hundred years. In the new system, the winners of the top tier contest for the World Test Championship, and the other teams compete for promotion to the top tier.
