The Lord’s Cricket Ground. A place that every cricketer fancies once in his lifetime to play cricket there.
Lords, where every player craves to perform an excellent display would surely signify a career-high achievement.
It’s the same, and the venue will commemorate it as well. That’s one of the reasons the Lords Honours Boards are very important.
What is The Lord’s Honours Board?
The Lord’s Honours Boards are public acknowledgment of the outstanding—or excellent—performances by the players at the venue. It is covering Test matches and limited-overs matches.
Limited-overs cricket was the latest addition in 2019, but Test cricket honours go back to July 1884 when Lord’s first hosted a Test match.
Since that time, numerous players from England and around the world have marked the ground with their names in the Lords’ honours boards.
There is, however, an interesting fact that there are two honour boards, one for batsmen and one for bowlers. In total, there are four boards in the venue—two in each of the home and away dressing rooms.
What should One Do To Be included on The Honours Board?
The answer is quite simple. Players have to score a century or take a five-wicket haul or a ten-wicket haul.
If they accomplish any one of those feats, their names will be forever inscribed on the boards. Those with centuries will be in the batting boards, while those with five-fors or ten-fors will be in the bowling boards.
Who was the very first player to enter the Lord’s Honours Boards?
Edmund Peate was the very first player to have his name carved on the Lord’s Honours Boards. He took 6 for 85 for England against Australia in July 1884.
Peate was quickly joined by the Australian Joey Palmer (6/111) and his mate George Ulyett (7/36) on the bowling list in the same match. Allan Steel, on the other hand, was the first centurion, having scored 148 for England in the same Test.
How many players are there in both batting and bowling boards?
A total of eleven players have shared the honor of being on both boards. Out of those, eight are from England and three are international cricketers.
How many players are there on the batting and bowling lists at the same time?
To be precise, there are eleven players, who have the honor of being the same number on both lists. Of them, eight belong to England and three are from overseas.
