A week before the England Test series, Gautam Gambhir had to rush back home due to a family emergency. He had gone to the UK with the rest of the Team India but had to leave. Meanwhile the team trained and played a 3 day practice match against India A. Fans are waiting to hear when will Gambhir return. Since he became the coach, India has won only one out of eight Tests so he has a tough task in hand in England.
Before the series starts a source close to Gambhir shared some news. They told Cricbuzz that the former player will join the team before the first Test. He will definitely come back before the first Test. He spoke to the doctors about his mom’s condition, she is better but still in the ICU. He will return soon, the source said.

The report also mentioned that VVS Laxman doesn’t have any specific role while Gambhir is away. He was seen at the practice match so there was talk that he might take up a coaching role. Laxman has helped Team India in the past including going to South Africa for a T20I series in November 2024.
In the first match of the 5 match series Shubman Gill will make his Test captaincy debut. He has been impressive, he has already led India in 5 T20Is and has experience in first class cricket as well. He will have Rishabh Pant by his side, who has been a key player since 2018 and has also captained India in T20s.
