Yashasvi Jaiswal, the young and fiery player, has joined the elite list of Rahul Dravid and Virender Sehwag as the quickest Indian to score 2,000 Test runs.
He achieved this feat in the last session of the third day of the second Test against England at Edgbaston on Friday. He played aggressively and scored quickly to increase India’s lead.
He reached 2000 Test runs when an outside edge went past gully for four. Jaiswal reached the milestone in his 40th innings, equalling Dravid and Sehwag. He beat the records of Indian greats like Vijay Hazare, Gautam Gambhir, Sachin Tendulkar and Sunil Gavaskar.
At 23 years and 188 days, Jaiswal is the second-youngest Indian to achieve this feat, after Sachin Tendulkar who did it at 20 years 330 days.
Jaiswal was hitting the gaps with ease and seemed to have England on the back foot when he was trapped lbw by Josh Tongue. Jaiswal attempted to drive the ball but missed the line completely. The umpire gave him out.
Jaiswal reviewed the decision and umpire Sharfuddoula accepted the challenge. England captain Ben Stokes told the umpire that the review timer had expired. After a long talk between Stokes and the umpire, the review was allowed.

The review confirmed the on-field decision and England celebrated as Jaiswal’s quick innings ended at 28 runs from 22 balls, including six fours. In the first innings, Jaiswal missed a century by a whisker and was dismissed for 87 runs from 107 balls by Stokes.
Right-arm bowlers seem to be Jaiswal’s weakness in England as he has been dismissed by them in each of his four innings and has an average of 30.25 against them.
After Jaiswal’s dismissal, KL Rahul continued to score quickly while Karun Nair played cautiously at the other end. India finished the day at 64/1 in 13 overs with a lead of 244 runs.
