Yashasvi Jaiswal felt disappointed after missing a century by a whisker. He praised Test captain Shubman Gill’s incredible innings that helped India to a good position at the end of the first day of the second Test at Edgbaston. Gill’s 114* and Jaiswal’s 87 were the talk of the town as India narrowly escaped a batting collapse on a good batting surface in Birmingham.
After KL Rahul (2) was dismissed early, Jaiswal played aggressively with caution. He got out of good balls but punished bad ones. Even with England’s accurate bowling, Jaiswal scored runs and added 66 runs with Gill. Jaiswal fell 13 runs short of his second consecutive Test century in England. He edged a ball from Ben Stokes to wicketkeeper Jamie Smith.
Of course, there is disappointment. It is disappointing, but it’s okay. It’s part of the game. I need to keep learning and enjoy the game too. In the end, I feel it’s just cricket, a beautiful game, so I want to enjoy it, Jaiswal told reporters.

After Jaiswal’s dismissal, Gill continued to bat, adding 99 runs with Ravindra Jadeja after India lost Rishabh Pant and Nitish Kumar Reddy quickly. He got his century by sweeping Joe Root for a boundary.
He’s been amazing with his batting. It’s incredible to watch him bat. As a captain, he’s been amazing too. He’s clear in his head about what he needs to do with the team and we are very confident, Jaiswal said about Gill. Gill and Jadeja batted till the end of the day, India 310/5 in 85 overs.
