Lucknow Super Giants made their IPL debut in 2022 and made to the playoffs of their first two seasons. But they couldn’t perform well in the IPL 2024 and finished seventh on the table. So, the franchise will be eager to get their hands on the trophy, and for that they need a solid team in the coming IPL 2025. The next edition will have a mega auction, which will see all teams have to do the reshuffle of their squads.
Every franchise can only retain 3-4 players, and the rest will be released to feature at the IPL 2025 auction. That’s where the problem begins. LSG has invested a lot in their team and made a bunch of top performers in the last three years. So, it will be hard for them to choose only four. But that’s the rule, and here we will discuss four possible retentions for LSG ahead of the IPL 2025 auction.
LSG IPL 2025 Retained Players list
Four players whom LSG can retain ahead of the IPL 2025 auction
1. KL Rahul
There has been some news circulating that the LSG owner is not happy with KL Rahul and will release them. But these are only rumours, and the franchise owner Sanjeev Goenka denied all these claims. Rahul is a run machine in the IPL and has scored most runs for the franchise. He was the top scorer for the team in 2024 with 520 runs with four half-centuries. It won’t be easy to find a consistent scorer at the top like him who can also keep wickets and lead the team. That’s why Rahul will be one of the retained players for LSG ahead of the IPL 2025.

2. Nicholas Pooran
Nicholas Pooran is probably one of the most demanded players in franchise cricket worldwide. The Southpaw is a dangerous batter who can win games from any situation, and he has done it consistently for LSG. In 2024, Pooran scored 499 runs at an average of 62.37 and a strike rate of 178.21, with three half-centuries. So, he is expected to be retained.

3. Marcus Stoinis
The IPL 2024 edition was the best season for Marcus Stoinis in his IPL career. He scored 388 runs with the bat and also took four wickets. The all-rounder was consistent with his bat. The last one year has been superb for the all-rounder at international and franchise levels both. He gives the team a great balance. Hence, there is no doubt that he will be retained.
4. Ravi Bishnoi or Mayank Yadav
There are a few other options, like Krunal Pandya, Ayush Badoni, Quinton de Kock, or Mohsin Khan, but the toss is between Ravi Bishnoi or Mayank Yadav. Bishnoi might have an edge because of his international success. The legspinner has become a regular player in India’s t20I squad and has gained experience.
That’s why LSG might tend towards him. Because it is very hard to find spinners who take wicket regularly in the middle. But if not, LSG can make a bold decision to retain Mayank Yadav. The Delhi born pacer bowled the fastest ball in the IPL 2024 and was breathing fire. That made him an overnight star. So, he can be a surprise retention.
