At a dinner hosted by Yuvraj Singh for his YouWeCan foundation, Virat Kohli spoke about his relationship with his former coach Ravi Shastri. Kohli spoke about Shastri’s impact on his career.
If I hadn’t worked with him, what I achieved in Test cricket wouldn’t have happened, Kohli said. The understanding we had is rare.
He emphasized on support for cricketers. If he hadn’t supported me like he did, especially in those press conferences where he defended me, things would have been different. I will always respect him for being such a big part of my career, the 36-year-old added.
In other news, Kohli recently retired from Test cricket, after retiring from T20 cricket last year after the ICC T20 World Cup.
Under their new captain Shubman Gill, the Indian team won their first ever Test at Edgbaston in Birmingham, England. Gill set the tone with 269 in the first innings and 161 in the second.

Akash Deep was the pick of the bowlers, taking 4 wickets in the first innings and 6 in the second to take a 10 wicket haul for the match. Mohammed Siraj also bowled well, taking 6 wickets in the first innings.
India are now 1-1 in the series after losing the first Test at Headingley last week.
