For about a month now, there’s been a lot of chatter about Sanju Samson’s future with Rajasthan Royals (RR). People are saying the 30-year-old captain might move to Chennai Super Kings (CSK) before the 2026 IPL season.
After a poor IPL 2025 season with poor form and injuries, Samson’s spot in RR was in question. While he was out, young Vaibhav Suryavanshi played well and Yashasvi Jaiswal proved he’s RR’s most reliable player since he started.
The trade talk got more intense when Samson’s manager liked a weird post online that hinted at a move to CSK. Fans went crazy thinking the wicketkeeper-batsman from Kerala might wear the yellow jersey in 2026.
Reports said RR and CSK are talking about a trade. CSK wants Samson and RR will get Ravichandran Ashwin and Shivam Dube in return. This deal will benefit both teams.
Sanju Samson recently went to the USA and apparently met with CSK management during the MLC tournament. No one has confirmed what the meeting was about but many think they had informal talks about a possible trade.

Just yesterday, July 16, 2025, Samson was seen having lunch with Siddhartha Lahiri, Rajasthan Royals’ Head of International Player Development. Lahiri who has worked with Samson for many IPL seasons put a photo of their lunch on social media saying “Lunch with the captain is always great fun”. Fans went wild thinking it means Samson will stay with RR.
Nothing is official yet but the uncertainty around Sanju Samson’s IPL future is still big news. It’s not clear whether he will stay as RR captain, join CSK to replace MS Dhoni or do something completely unexpected. The decision will be made before the IPL 2026 auction.
