Ravichandran Ashwin, a familiar face in the IPL, has announced he’s hanging up his boots from the IPL after his stint with the Chennai Super Kings. Ashwin shared the news on social media, thanking the IPL teams he’s played for and the BCCI for their support.
In his post, Ashwin said it’s a special day that marks the end of one chapter and the beginning of another. He said while his time as an IPL player is coming to an end, he’s excited to explore opportunities in other leagues around the world. Ashwin thanked all the franchises for the great memories and relationships he’s built over the years. He also thanked the IPL and the BCCI for the opportunities they’ve given him. He said he’s looking forward to enjoying and making the most of what’s ahead.

Ashwin’s IPL journey began in 2009 with the Chennai Super Kings. He played 221 games and picked up 187 wickets at an economy of 7.20. Beyond his bowling, he was a valuable asset with the bat, scoring 833 runs, including a half-century. He played for four teams – Chennai Super Kings, Punjab Kings, Delhi Capitals and Rajasthan Royals. He played for CSK in 2025 but it was a tough season for him, he took only 7 wickets in 9 games.

Looking back, Ashwin’s IPL journey has been one of growth and adaptability. From being a young off-spinner with CSK to becoming a key bowler, he added variations to his bowling and became a lower-order batsman. Even when he moved to other franchises, he was always a player teams could rely on. He was captain of Punjab Kings and showed his leadership skills.
With Delhi Capitals and Rajasthan Royals, he proved his worth as a senior player who can contribute in different situations.Now he moves on, his IPL numbers and his time with the teams will be etched in memory. He hopes to have the same success in other leagues around the world. He’s looking forward to the new challenges ahead.
