In the past ten years, you probably have seen LED stumps in almost every cricket match. But do you know how much a set of LED stumps costs?
Well, if not, then don’t worry, because I have got you covered. I will here reveal the price of LED stumps and the technology behind them.

Zing International is one of the leading companies in this field, and most of the cricket boards, the International Cricket Council (ICC) inclusive, are very pleased to use their LED stumps.
The whole set of LED stumps with the bails, produced by Zing, costs around $40,000 to $50,000, which is about Rs. 30-40 lakhs.
I guess you must be surprised after reading this, but just a moment, please. The bails of LED that are provided with the stumps are also very expensive; they alone are priced around INR 50,000!
The LED stumps produced by Intelliconn and StumpVision are less expensive than Zing International, but still, not by much. Their stumps are priced in the range of $5,000 to $20,000 which is approximately INR 4 lakhs to INR 16 lakhs.
Technological Development in LED Stumps
Cricket was played with wooden stumps before any sort of LED stumps came into being. The only technology used to assist the wooden stump was the camera placed at the center stump.
Nevertheless, the LED stumps have come out with the camera plus a few complex things, that is why they are very much ahead in technology.
The LED stumps made by Zing International are composed of plastic. LED lights, a small camera, and a microphone for the camera and a microphone that is used only in the middle stump are then embedded in these stumps.
The LED bails, on the other hand, are powered by low-voltage batteries and microprocessors which help the stumps and bails glow at the moment of contact with a player or any object like a bat or ball.
Do Cricket Boards Purchase LED Stumps?
The response is NO! Even the wealthiest cricket board, the BCCI, does not purchase these pricey LED stumps. They simply rent the stumps from the manufacturer according to the terms of the contract and pay as per the contract.
