The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 auction is set for December 16, and the teams have already composed their retention and release lists. Now, the teams will get busy filling up the remaining slots and creating their squads for the upcoming season.
The auction will be a good place for the domestic spinners, who will be the main attraction in that pool. Different teams apart from each other, one will be looking for a spinner who can fit in their playing XI lineup, while the other will be wanting a reliable backup. So let’s take a look at five domestic spinners who can put up a big fight in the IPL 2026 auction and draw the attention of many.
Ravi Bishnoi
Ravi Bishnoi had two poor seasons in a row, and his expensive economy rate of 10.83 in IPL 2025 has made things even tougher. With young spinner Digvesh Rathi performing well in his debut season, Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) decided to release Bishnoi and free up the purse before the IPL 2026 auction.

But taking into account the past performances, there is a good chance that other franchises will show interest in him, and he could still be amongst the players who might receive strong bids at the IPL 2026 auction.
Vignesh Puthur
Vignesh Puthur featured in five matches in IPL 2025 season and bagged six wickets. The MI scouting team picked the Kerala-born spinner after he had shone in local leagues. He had a strong start to his debut season but injuries killed his momentum, thus, keeping him out of most of the 2025 season.
Mumbai Indians released him as he is still recovering, but they are supporting his rehab. His case is like that of a player who has had injury problems, but his peculiar bowling skills can still pull a pretty good interest at the IPL 2026 auction. If he is fully fit and available, MI themselves might try to bring him back.
Karn Sharma
Karn Sharma was let go by the Mumbai Indians on the day of IPL 2026 retention deadline. He has bagged 83 IPL wickets in 90 games. Karn’s presence in the league still makes him a respectable choice for teams. He was MI’s Impact Player for the 2025 season and during his stint took 7 wickets in 6 games.
Considering he has been a part of CSK and RCB before, teams may not hesitate to bid for him as a backup spinner in the auction.
Rahul Chahar
Sunrisers Hyderabad has given up on Rahul Chahar. He may be one of the players who could possibly draw attention during the IPL 2026 auction.
He was only included in one match throughout the last season, but still, he can be a good backup spinner for any team. He has already bagged 75 wickets in the IPL.
Siddharth Desai
The spinner from Gujarat, Siddharth Desai is getting the attention of the cricketing world this year as he is among the top wicket-takers in the Ranji Trophy 2025-26 season, having 35 wickets in just 10 innings, along with 3 four-wicket hauls and 2 five-wicket hauls.
Whatever the scenario, IPL teams are always on a lookout for reliable left-arm spinners and there aren’t many strong options available, so Siddharth Desai could really get a lot of attention in the IPL 2026 auction. He is in form and has a good chance of being selected.
