During an exciting game on Thursday, he was given out on 48 runs off Blessing Muzarabani’s ball. Varun Chakravarthy’s spectacular diving catch sparked controversy as Abhishek Sharma seemed to be in a state of disbelief. Though he was given out after a review, he still stayed on the pitch and gestured in frustration before leaving. This violation of the IPL Code of Conduct caught the eye of the match officials.
The IPL issued an official statement saying, “Abhishek Sharma, All-rounder, Sunrisers Hyderabad, has been fined 25 per cent of his match fees and has been given one demerit point for breaching the IPL Code of Conduct during his team’s match against Kolkata Knight Riders at Eden Gardens, Kolkata.”
Abhishek admitted to a Level 1 offence under Article 2.3 of the ICC Code of Conduct. He accepted the penalty imposed by the Match Referee, which has now been deemed final.
Abhishek was in sublime touch and was eyeing a half-century before his dismissal. SRH lost the game, but his fiery innings displayed his potential in the Eden Gardens drama.
