Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have had the services of some of the finest batters in the IPL. They have humbled their opponents with their powerful batting lineup.
But the same batting lineup was at the receiving end on several counts as the opposition bowlers made matters worse for them. As a result, CSK failed to put up modest totals on the board. On a few occasions, they even got all out below 100!

5. 109/10 vs Mumbai Indians | 2019
CSK and Mumbai Indians (MI) have always had close contests in IPL history. But this game turned out to be the complete opposite.
The Super Kings hosted MI at their home ground, Chepauk, and asked them to bat first. MI managed 155 on a slow surface.
It looked like an easy chase for CSK, but Mumbai’s bowlers showed their class. The pace trio of Lasith Malinga, Jasprit Bumrah, and Hardik Pandya paired up to take eight wickets between them.
And CSK slumped to 109 all out, with three batters scoring in double digits. Chennai faced a 46-run humiliation at home.
4. 109/10 vs Rajasthan Royals | 2008
CSK have logged another 109 all out in the IPL. And this one’s against Rajasthan Royals (RR).
It was back in the 2008 season when CSK collapsed in front of Sohail Tanvir’s pace. The left-arm pacer pierced through CSK’s batting lineup to wrap them up on 109. Tanvir had figures of 6 for 14!
Had it not been for a crucial 42-run cameo from Albie Morkel, CSK would have been all out below 100. RR gunned down the total with eight wickets to spare.
3. 103/9 vs kolkata Knight Riders | 2025
Their season, 2025 edition, took a turn for the worse after their battle against Kolkata Knight Riders. Having batted first in testing conditions, the batting didn’t settle and we kept losing wickets at regular intervals.
KKR’s bowlers implemented their strategies to perfection, particularly during the powerplay as they struck early blows that left the middle-order under tremendous pressure. Any attempt at respite was always shattered against some stubborn bowling.
Apart from a couple of minor alliances, the scoreboard hardly budged and the side eventually managed only 103/9 off their 20 overs. The low total was never close to being enough as KKR easily chased down the target.
2. 97/10 vs Mumbai Indians | 2022
CSK’s nightmare against MI continues on this list. In what was already a below-average 2022 season for CSK, their poor batting performance against MI was the final nail in the coffin.
After being asked to bat first, Chennai’s top order was back in the hut in five overs. Daniel Sams did the bulk of the damage in the powerplay before other bowlers came to the party.
Captain MS Dhoni tried to pull back the team, but his 36* off 33 wasn’t enough. He saw his side getting wrapped up for 97 runs as he was stranded on the other end.

1. 79/10 vs Mumbai Indians | 2013
CSK’s 79 all-out is the lowest score in IPL history. And guess what? MI were the opponent once again.
The Super Kings were on a seven-match winning streak in IPL 2013. And they looked set to extend it to eight after they restricted MI to 139 for 5. But it wasn’t meant to be.
CSK were collectively outbowled by MI’s bowling attack. The pace duo of Mitchell Johnson and Lasith Malinga shared five wickets between them, while the spin duo of Pragyan Ojha and Harbhajan Singh strangled CSK with four wickets.
Except for three batters, no one managed to score in double digits. As a result, CSK lost the match by 60 runs.
