Devdutt Padikkal, the talented left-handed batsman from Karnataka, has been bought by Royal Challengers Bengaluru for INR 2 crore in the IPL 2025 auction. Padikkal first made a mark in the IPL with RCB in 2020, scoring 473 runs in his debut season. He continued to impress in 2021 with 411 runs, including a century. Despite his success, RCB released him before the 2022 auction, and he later played for Rajasthan Royals and Lucknow Super Giants. After a challenging season with Lucknow in 2024, Padikkal will return to RCB for the 2025 season.

Devdutt Padikkal IPL Debut
Devdutt Padikkal played his debut match in the IPL on September 21, 2020. He turned up for Royal Challengers Bangalore (now Bengaluru) against Sunrisers Hyderabad in Dubai.
Padikkal played a wonderful knock on his debut, scoring 56 runs off 42 balls while opening the innings. His knock helped RCB post 163 runs on the board, which they defended successfully.
The left-hand batter continued his form with the bat throughout the season. Padikkal accumulated 473 runs in 15 innings, including five half-centuries.

Devdutt Padikkal IPL Auction Price & History
Devdutt Padikkal bagged his first IPL deal in 2019. Royal Challengers Bengaluru bought the local talent for INR 20 lakhs in the 2019 auction.
Padikkal stayed with RCB for three seasons. Despite his decent performances in the 2020 and 2021 editions, RCB didn’t retain him ahead of the 2022 season.
In the 2022 auction, Padikkal landed a new deal with Rajasthan Royals for INR 7.75 crore. After spending two years with the Royals, the franchise traded him to Lucknow Super Giants in 2024 at the same price.
Devdutt Padikkal has been bought by Royal Challengers Bangalore for INR 2 crore in the IPL 2025 auction.

Devdutt Padikkal’s performance in the previous two seasons is in complete contrast to his first two seasons. He hasn’t scored a lot of runs, which hasn’t given much confidence to the franchises.
That was also the reason behind Lucknow Super Giants releasing him ahead of the 2025 auction. But the franchise may buy him back in the auction given they don’t have KL Rahul to open the innings.
