Mumbai Indians (MI) formed in 2008 are based in Mumbai and have won the most titles in the IPL with 5 wins in 2013, 2015, 2017, 2019 and 2020. They also won 2 Champions League T20 titles in 2011 and 2013.
MI have won their 5 IPL titles with different coaches. Their first win was in 2013 with John Wright, then in 2015 (Ricky Ponting), 2017, 2019 and 2020 (Mahela Jayawardene).
For 2026 IPL Hardik Pandya will be the captain. Mahela Jayawardene was brought back as head coach before the 2025 season. Kieron Pollard is the batting coach and Lasith Malinga and Paras Mhambrey are the bowling coaches.

Head Coach: Mahela Jayawardene

MI website says Mahela Jayawardene returns as head coach for IPL 2025. He was head coach from 2017 to 2022 during which MI won 3 IPL titles (2017, 2019, 2020). In 2022 Jayawardene became the Global Head of Cricket, managing MI’s expansion into other leagues. He takes over from Mark Boucher who was the head coach in 2023 and 2024.
Batting Coach: Kieron Pollard

Reports say Kieron Pollard will be the Mumbai Indians’ batting coach for the 2026 IPL. He was a key player in MI’s title winning teams, including a memorable 60 not out from 32 balls in the 2013 final which won them their first IPL title. He has also led the West Indies in white ball cricket and captained the Barbados Tridents to a CPL title in 2014.

Bowling Coaches: Lasith Malinga and Paras Mhambrey

MI website says Paras Mhambrey is the bowling coach for IPL 2025 working with Lasith Malinga. Mhambrey, a former Indian cricketer is an experienced coach and was part of the coaching team during their 2023 IPL win and 2 Champions League T20 titles.
Fielding Coach: Carl Hopkinson
He will be the fielding coach for Mumbai Indians in 2025. Hopkinson has loads of experience having been the fielding coach for the England men’s cricket team for 7 years. He was also the fielding coach for the England Under-19 team in the 2022 ICC Under-19 World Cup where they were runners up.
Director of Cricket: Rahul Sanghvi
Sanghvi, a former Delhi player and close to Sachin Tendulkar has been heading the MI scouting team since the IPL began in 2008. While all teams have developed scouting systems to find young talent from domestic T20 tournaments, Mumbai’s scouting has been impressive and they deserve credit for that.
Icon: Sachin Tendulkar

Sachin Tendulkar is the icon of Mumbai Indians. He took over the role after retiring from the T20 league in 2013 after winning the IPL 2013 trophy under Rohit Sharma. He became the MI icon before IPL 2014. It’s not a full time job and Sachin serves as MI’s part time mentor.
