Former India head coach Rahul Dravid has turned 52 years old. He was born on January 11, 1973 in Indore, Madhya Pradesh. The right-hander, after working hard at the domestic level, made his international debut in 1996 against England. He managed to score 96 runs on his debut and there was no looking back after that. This was the same Test match in which Sourav Ganguly made his debut and scored a hundred.
Dravid was the highest run getter for India in what was a forgettable World Cup in 1999 as the team knocked out in the Super Six stage. However, a couple of years later, the former India skipper was part of India’s greatest comeback against Australia in 2001. Dravid made a lot of records and in this listicle, we will discuss the top seven records of the T20 World Cup 2024 winning coach.
Top 7 records of Rahul Dravid
1. Fourth highest run getter of all time in Tests
The 52-year-old happens to be the fourth highest run getter in Test history. Having played 164 games, he scored 13288 runs averaging 52.31 including 36 hundreds. Only Jacques Kallis, Ricky Ponting and Sachin Tendulkar are ahead of him.
2. Seventh most runs combining Tests, ODIs, and T20Is
The former India skipper has played 509 games across all formats and has hit 24208 runs. Virat Kohli is the only active player ahead of him with 27483 runs across formats.
3. Only player to retire from T20I format after making his debut in the same match
The Karnataka player made his T20I debut against England in 2011. He was the highest run getter for the team in the preceding Test series which the team lost by 4-0. He scored 31 runs in 21 balls including three back-to-back sixes and after the Men In Blue lost the game, he retired from the game as he wanted to focus on Tests.
4. Second most runs for India in Tests
Despite having retired from international cricket in 2012, Dravid happens to be the second-highest run getter for India in Tests. Sachin Tendulkar is the only player ahead of him.
5. Fifth highest runs for India in ODIs
Dravid has played 340 ODIs and has 10768 runs. Even though his batting average of 39.15 doesn’t justify his talent, he is still the fifth highest run scorer for India in ODIs.
6. Fourth Indian to represent two countries
After Abdul Kardar, Gul Mohammad, and Amir Elahi represented India and Pakistan, Dravid became the fourth player to represent two countries. He played for Scotland in 2003 while playing for India. At that time, Scotland was not an international side and used to play County Cricket.
7. Most catches in Tests in international cricket
Dravid has not only made records with the bat but also with his fielding skills. In Test match cricket, he has the record of highest number of catches (210) to his name. He used to stand in slips during most of his Test career. Only Joe Root (207) is ahead of him and seems like he will break Dravid’s record.
