Harmanpreet Kaur on India’s win
India captain Harmanpreet Kaur thanked the fans for coming out in numbers and backing the team. She said senior players like Mandhana and Deepti always step up when the team needs them most.
Reflecting on the match, she admitted India did feel a bit of pressure early on, but things settled once she and Mandhana built a partnership. She also praised Richa Ghosh for playing her role smartly in the middle order, saying her batting position depends on the situation of the game.
On fielding, Harmanpreet was pleased with the effort, saying catches make a huge difference in T20 cricket and India made sure they held onto their chances. She also stressed that every league match matters, especially for net run rate.
Fatima Sana on Pakistan’s defeat
Pakistan captain Fatima Sana didn’t hide her disappointment, calling the batting performance below expectations. She said the team needs to improve quickly if they want to stay competitive in the tournament.
She felt Pakistan was still in the game for a while in the chase, but lost momentum in the final overs. She also mentioned that India’s field changes, especially around the left-right batting combination, put extra pressure on them.
Fatima admitted that dropped catches, including by senior players, cost them badly. She added that the young team will learn from these mistakes and come back stronger.
Match summary
It was a one-sided contest in the end. Pakistan got a decent start through Muneeba Ali, but Deepti Sharma struck early to break the opening stand and shift the momentum.
From there, India’s spin attack took full control. Shree Charani picked up three wickets, but Deepti stole the show with incredible figures of 5 for 10, including a devastating spell where she picked up three wickets in a single over.
That effort completely derailed Pakistan’s chase. Deepti also became the leading wicket-taker in Women’s T20Is, going past 166 wickets in her career.
One notable moment after the match was the lack of handshakes between the two teams.
Player of the Match – Deepti Sharma
Deepti said she enjoys bowling on turning tracks and tries to vary her pace depending on conditions. She credited the crowd for their support and also highlighted the partnership between Smriti Mandhana and Harmanpreet Kaur, which she felt set up the win.
She added that she always backs herself to step up when the team needs her, and today was one of those days when everything worked perfectly.
