India will begin its T20 World Cup tour On June 5th against Ireland and Dhawan was seen praising the Hitman’s Captaincy, he expressed that India is all set to lift the trophy once again as it is a perfectly balanced team that is all set to go and witness thrilling cricket at the host countries.
“Dhawan also shared his thoughts on how the World Cup might see changes in scoring without the ‘Impact Player’ rule, which was a big deal in IPL 2024. This rule allowed teams to switch a player during the game, which could help amp up their batting strength. Dhawan thinks that without this rule, we might see lower scores in the World Cup, especially since it’s being held in the USA and West Indies.”
Shikhar Dhawan Stand on Rohit Sharma and T20 Indian Squad
Shikhar Dhawan was singing praises for the captain for the upcoming T20 World Cup season and was seen praising Rohit Sharma even after their not-so-appreciable performance in the IPL 2024 Season where they were ranked at the bottom of the table. Showing optimism for the Team and Indian squad under hitman leadership Shikhar told TOI in an exclusive interview, “Of course, there is lots of pressure playing for India in World Cups, and Rohit is an experienced guy. I am sure his experience will come in handy. He knows how to soak the pressure, and definitely, India will come out with flying colors,”
Dhawan also showed a positive outlook for players like Shivam Dube, Yuzvendra Chahal, and Sanju Samson, who have all secured their places in the team – “It’s great to see players like Shivam Dube, Yuzi (Yuzvendra Chahal), and Sanju (Samson) getting their deserved spot in the ICC tournament. We have a very balanced side and we need to play really good cricket. Good luck, Team India, we are all rooting for you guys,” he added.
Dhawan statement on Kohli and Bumrah’s presence in the T20 World Cup
“Dhawan Backs Kohli & Bumrah as India’s T20 World Cup X-Factors.” He calls Kohli the ‘Chase master’ whose mere presence demoralizes the opposition and praises Bumrah as the ‘world’s best bowler.’ Dhawan thinks these two, along with Rohit Sharma, are crucial for India’s success. Kohli’s IPL performance has been excellent, with over 700 runs, while Bumrah has taken 20 wickets for MI this IPL 2024 season.”
Impact Player Rule and Shikhar Dhawan
“The ‘Impact Player’ rule, allowing teams to add an extra batter or bowler, seems to have pumped up the scores in this IPL. There’ve been a whopping eight times where teams scored over 250 runs. This got people talking again about the balance between batting and bowling, especially since IPL conditions usually favor batters.
Stating his side on the impact player Rule, Dhawan expressed –
“The mindset has changed after the introduction of the impact player. When a batter in the middle knows that there is batting available till number 8 and 9, he is going to take the aggressive route which is why so many high scores are being made”
Talking about the impact of this rule in the Upcoming World Cup, Shikhar said “In the World Cup, we do not have any impact player rule. The impact of it would be seen definitely. That is a differentiator and how we adapt to the conditions is what will matter the most.”
