Jasprit Bumrah was declared ICC Cricketer of the Year 2024 on January 28, a Tuesday. At 31, the fast bowler ruled the roost in 2024 for India. Taking 71 wickets in 13 Tests made him the highest wicket-taker among bowlers, while in eight T20Is, he took down 15 batters. Bumrah’s stellar performances helped win India the T20 World Cup 2024, for which he also won the Player of the Tournament award due to an excellent display of bowling.
Bumrah was subsequently crowned the Sir Garfield Sobers Trophy winner Tuesday after winning the ICC Test Cricketer of the Year award Monday, January 27. He now becomes the fifth Indian male player to win an ICC Cricketer of the Year award.
Other Indian cricketers who won the ICC player of the year award:
1. Rahul Dravid (2004) :
One of the most prolific batters of his time Former India head Coach Rahul Dravid was awarded with the ICC cricketer of the year in 2004. Rahul Dravid was in splendid touch as the right-handed batter scored 1241 runs,752 runs in 9 tests and 13 ODIs respectively. Rahul Dravid was awarded with ICC test player of the year in the same year.
2. Sachin Tendulkar (2010):
Often regarded as the “God of Cricket ” Sachin Ramesh Tendulkar won the ICC cricketer of the year in 2010. In the year Sachin Tendulkar had accumulated 674 runs in 7 tests followed by 703 runs in 14 ODIs. Sachin was 37 when he won the award and so far is the oldest player to get honoured with that award.
3. R Ashwin (2016):
R Ashwin was bestowed with ICC cricketer of the year and ICC test cricketer of the year in 2016. Ravi Ashwin who bid adieu to international cricket in 2024 played a total of 12 tests 2 ODIs and 17 T 20 matches in 2016 picking up 72,2 and 23 wickets. Ashwin also scored 612 runs in test cricket in that year. He was the first Indian bowler to get that award.

4. Virat Kohli (2017,2018):
Virat Kohli won his first ICC Cricketer of the Year award in 2017 and the second in 2018. He is one of just three cricketers to claim the Sir Garfield Sobers Trophy twice, and is just the second player to have achieved it in consecutive years after Ricky Ponting. In 2017, Kohli scored 1059 runs in 10 Tests, 1460 in 26 ODIs, and 299 runs in 10 T20Is, while in 2018 the former Indian captain scored a total of 1322 runs in 13 Tests, 1202 runs in 14 ODIs, and 211 in 10 T20Is.
