On Wednesday in Dubai, Abhishek didn’t start well. He took some time to get used to the slow conditions, with India at 10 for 0 after two overs and 17 for 0 at the end of the third. Then things accelerated, 38 runs came in the next two overs and 55 by the end of the fifth. Abhishek hit his first six off left-arm spinner Nasum Ahmed in the fourth over and then went after left-arm pacer Mustafizur Rahman, hitting two sixes in the fifth. Mohammad Saifuddin, who bowled the last over of the powerplay, was smashed by Abhishek, who hit four boundaries in the over. After the powerplay, India lost Shubman Gill for 29 (19) to leg-spinner Rishad Hossain in the first over. Shivam Dube, who batted at No. 3, couldn’t get going and was also out for 2 to the leg-spinner. Even as wickets were falling, Abhishek kept the score moving, hitting Saifuddin for 16 runs in his next over and getting to his fifty.
Abhishek was run out in the 12th over after a great play at point from Rishad. India then lost momentum, Abhishek and Suryakumar Yadav (5 off 11 balls) got out quickly.
Hardik Pandya played well for 38 off 29 balls but India could only manage 168. Batting changes continued, Tilak Varma, who was supposed to bat at No. 3, got out for 5 off 7 and Sanju Samson, who was supposed to bat at No. 5, didn’t get to bat.
