Chennai Super Kings, a well-known team in the Indian Premier League (IPL), are having a rough start to the 2025 season, losing two out of their first three matches. Ruturaj Gaikwad and Rachin Ravindra have scored some runs, but many of their teammates haven’t been able to pitch in much. On the bowling side, Noor Ahmed has been the standout player for CSK, but others haven’t been consistent.
One of the biggest issues for CSK so far has been their fielding. Former player Ambati Rayudu, who’s on the commentary team this season, mentioned how tough it has been for him to watch the team’s fielding in the first few games. He pointed out that in close matches, every little mistake counts.
While the Rajasthan Royals made some impressive catches, CSK struggled, only managing a few decent stops. Rayudu commented that good fielding requires not just youth but also good anticipation and awareness, giving an example of Riyan Parag’s catch that changed the game when Shivam Dube was doing well.
CSK hasn’t had the best reputation for fielding, especially not this season. They dropped easy catches and looked shaky in the outfield, and these mistakes were hard to watch. Gaikwad also admitted in the post-match presentation that fielding has been an issue, with the team losing about 8-10 runs unnecessarily. Next up, CSK will face the strong Delhi Capitals on April 5.
