With the 2025 Women’s World Cup set to entertain the mass audience from 30th September, India and Sri Lanka will be co-hosting the much-prestigious tournament. The opening match vents an explosive monthly calendar of cricket by having the two hosts go against each other at Barsapara Cricket Stadium, Guwahati.
For India, expectations are sky-high as the Women in Blue enter the tournament in excellent form. Many pundits believe this to be India’s best-ever shot at grabbing the World Cup with a strong batting line-up, all-rounders on both sides of the wrench, and seasoned bowlers, a view echoed by former Indian captain and cricket analyst Anjum Chopra. She even went ahead to point out four players that she feels will make or break India’s campaign.
Anjum Chopra Picks the star batters to shine for India
Chopra said about India’s batting line-up that India needs, in her words, some players who can manage to stand up under pressure and come through in high-stress situations. She expressed confidence in Harleen Deol and Jemimah Rodrigues to deliver when India really needs them.
“When it matters the most, I feel Harleen Deol, and Jemimah Rodrigues should step up,” Chopra said in talk with InsideSport.

Deol has had a rough patch for over a year now but still carries a lot of expectations. She has technically beautiful strokes and has a composed temperament. Deol is required to anchor the innings from the middle order. On the other hand, Rodrigues is an established match-winner in T20s and has the capacity to mold her game in the 50-over format. She has delivered in recent bilateral series under pressure, and that makes her a big asset to India’s batting line.
Chopra picks two bowlers to dominate throughout the World Cup
Chopra further underscored the importance of India’s spin-bowling all-rounders in home conditions and picked Deepti Sharma and Sneh Rana as the ones who could flip the game with their skill and temperament.
“My bowling revolves around Deepti Sharma and Sneh Rana,” Chopra added.
In India already has a bowling attack, and they’ve been supported by many throughout the years for accuracies and breaking of partnerships at just-in-time moments. Their batting ability in the lower order on occasions gives the team some breaths. Rana, too, has, in recent years, come into the ranks of performers whom India can count on. With her knack for taking the crucial wicket and fighting with the bat, Rana is likely to wear two hats in consolidating India’s chances.
India waiting for their first World Cup Title
With the tournament being held under familiar conditions, Team India will now look to use their home advantage to earn their maiden Women’s World Cup title. Being filled with match-winners from every department, they stand as one of the strongest contenders for this year. Chopra’s predictions reiterate that the fortunes of India could be very much linked to Deol, Rodrigues, Deepti, and Rana. If these four turn up in the big games, then this might be the year that the Women in Blue release themselves from nearly seven decades of World Cup heartbreak.
