Arshdeep Singh made history as the first Indian bowler to take 100 wickets in T20Is. He achieved this feat in the Asia Cup 2025 match against Oman on Friday, getting Vinayak Shukla’s wicket. Before this, Yuzvendra Chahal and Hardik Pandya had 96 wickets each. Arshdeep is also the fastest bowler to reach 100 T20I wickets and third overall, behind Rashid Khan and Wanindu Hasaranga.
Suryakumar Yadav handled things well and India won by 21 runs and finished their Asia Cup league stage with three wins on the trot. In two days, they will face Pakistan in the Super 4s in Dubai. Before that, Surya let his other teammates bat while he took the last spot at number 11.
India aimed for a tough score of 189, which was a first for Oman against T20 World Champions. The Indian bowlers, without Jasprit Bumrah and Varun Chakravarthy, did just enough to restrict Oman to 167 for 4 in 20 overs.

In batting, Sanju Samson scored 56, Axar Patel 26 off 13 balls, Abhishek Sharma 38 off 15 balls, all following the team’s plan with high strike rates. Tilak Varma also chipped in with 29 off 18 balls at No. 7. Hardik Pandya, who needed some time at bat, was run out and Shubman Gill looked a bit off during his brief stay.
Surya had the option to use 8 bowlers to get everyone a game, knowing 189 would be a tough ask for Oman. The two new players in the eleven, Harshit Rana and Arshdeep Singh, looked like they needed more game time. Kuldeep Yadav was as usual. Arshdeep, who might not play against Pakistan, got to complete 100 wickets, a first for an Indian.
For Oman, captain Jatinder Singh, Aamir Kaleem and Hammad Mirza fought hard but couldn’t win.
Looking ahead, Surya now knows what to expect from his team for the rest of the tournament. Samson got the most runs, though there’s no guarantee he’ll bat at 3 against Pakistan. With Gill out early, Samson, being a right-hander, got to bat in the top order. His innings wasn’t perfect on a slow pitch but three fours and three sixes off 45 balls should give him confidence for the week ahead. His first big hit off Shah Faisal was impressive but his lack of recent game time was visible.
India would have wanted to bat first and use all 20 overs before the Super 4s, giving their middle order more time before the Pakistan game. The batting order was changed, with Samson getting his preferred spot and Axar and Pandya moved up the order.
