If the longest format tests a player’s patience, the shortest format reveals the class, temperament, and talent. In cricket’s shortest battlefield, every ball is loaded with the highest drama.
Don’t think that only international T20s can excite; domestic T20 tournaments are too hot and offer their own share of thrills. The Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, the domestic T20 tournament, has been the source of the drama that keeps the fans glued to their seats.
Every day is a big event in India’s own SMAT, as there are records made and broken at the same time. Among all, Baroda’s record innings of 349 runs is the highest T20 innings. Let’s rewind to that day when Bhanu Pania’s undefeated masterpiece took the spotlight.
Pania’s Perfect Innings Leads Baroda to a Historic T20 Record
The domestic tournament has turned into the biggest stage for grassroots talents to showcase their skills ever since the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy was launched. Sometimes, the teams, through their combined effort, are the ones who shatter record books while the players are exhibiting their excellence. In the 2024 edition, Baroda took it to another level, breaking into history with a record-breaking T20 total.

They got off to a dreamy start while batting first, as Shashwat Rawat and Abhimanyusingh Rajput formed a game-changing partnership of 92 runs. After Singh departed with a crucial half-century, Bhanu Pania came in and the Sikkim bowlers had a nightmare on the field.
He lavished the crowd with his power hitting by blasting a multitude of sixes and venting his fury with a 20-ball fifty. Sikkim was already virtually beaten by his mercilessness, yet he was still masterful in his tentative strokes. He was the Sikkim bowlers’ worst nightmare; he compiled a wonderful century in just 42 balls, which included five fours and 10 sixes.
As planned, Baroda moved the score quickly with his participation. Besides, half-centuries of Shivalik Sharma and Vishnu Solanki added to the pressure that made Sikkim choke. Finally, with a not out 135 off 51 balls, Pania was the main reason for the team to make a new record total of 349/5.
In a limited-overs match of only 20 overs, a 300+ score is very unusual, as even sometimes the batsmen in a test match fail to cope with the bowling; but Baroda simply went ahead of the rule book. Not only did they make a heap of runs in 120 balls, they also wrote a new chapter of sheer, unapologetic domination.
It was not just the score that Baroda impressed the world with but also a giant win in this game. Sikkim, who were chasing the 350-run target, finished their innings at a mere 86 runs as the bowling attack of Baroda ripped through their batting order. Thus, Baroda placed themselves in the T20 history with an incredible 263-run victory.
