In the latest developments it is seen that BCCI might change the family rules for foreign tours. Back in January 2025, after that awful Test series against Australia, the BCCI said families couldn’t tag along for the whole tour.
But now, news agencies ANI and India Today are reporting that players can ask for permission if they want their families around for a longer stretch when they’re playing abroad.
This all comes after Virat Kohli wasn’t happy with the rule. He said it’s important for players to have their families nearby, especially when things get intense on those foreign tours.
A BCCI insider told India Today, Players can ask if they want their families to stay longer on tours. The BCCI will decide what to do.
When the BCCI first said families couldn’t hang out as much on these tours, players and experts had mixed feelings.
Kohli said last week, “It’s hard to explain how helpful it is to just go back to your family after something intense. I don’t think people get how valuable that is. I’m a bit bummed out because people who don’t really know what’s going on get dragged into it. Like, ‘oh, maybe they need to be kept away.’
The 36-year-old added he doesn’t want to miss chances to chill with his family.
“Life’s always throwing different stuff at you. Being with family lets you be totally normal. Not in some wishy-washy way, but for real. You finish what you gotta do, then you go home, hang with your family, and everything’s normal. That’s a great day for me. And I’ll always try to spend time with my family when I can.”
