With Cummins and Starc in the team, it’s easy to overlook Hazlewood and maybe that’s fair. He keeps a low profile, doesn’t do much media, but when it’s game time, he can be Australia’s best bowler. Hazlewood has a real commitment to Test cricket which was evident during his time in the IPL. He got injured during the league and had to go home, but he came back, played and then headed straight to the UK for the WTC final.
That’s just one example of his dedication. Dinesh Karthik who is part of RCB shared a story during the WTC final about how Hazlewood was preparing for it. He said when Hazlewood came back to India after the IPL, he was focused on both the league and the WTC final.
He increased his training by bowling longer spells to get ready for Test matches. Karthik said he would bowl 4 overs, take a short break and then bowl more in the hot Indian weather with the WTC final in his sights.

Before the IPL was paused, Hazlewood had a shoulder injury and there were talks he might miss the rest of the season. He didn’t have to come back but he showed loyalty to RCB, came back when he was fully fit and played a big role in helping the team win the league for the first time.
