England all-rounder Brydon Carse thinks India will have a good team despite the absence of star players Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli in the first Test of the five-match series starting Friday at Headingley. Rohit and Virat have stepped back from red-ball cricket last month so India are missing their top batsmen for this series. They’ve brought in younger players like Sai Sudharsan and Karun Nair to fill the gaps left by the more experienced players.
Even without these big names Carse believes Indian cricket has enough depth and talent to make it tough for them. Of course losing Virat and Rohit is a big blow to their batting line up. They’ve been around for a long time and are world class players. But the depth in Indian cricket and the new talent coming in means they’ll still put together a strong team and we’ll be ready for whatever they throw at us, Carse said.

He also said India is one of the best teams in the world which makes it exciting for any player to play against them. As a sportsman when you play against quality opponents you want to raise your game and be competitive, he said.
Carse is back in the England team after recovering from a toe injury that kept him out of the recent Test against Zimbabwe. He’s looking forward to playing at home after taking 27 wickets in five matches during his time in Pakistan and New Zealand last year. This series opener against India is a great chance for me to show what I can do in familiar conditions, he added.
