Kaushal Silva, who used to open for Sri Lanka, is now the head coach of the Hong Kong cricket team. This is before the 2025 Men’s T20 Asia Cup.
Silva, a right-handed wicketkeeper-batter, last played one of his 39 Test matches for Sri Lanka in November 2018. He’s coached in Sri Lanka, England and Australia before. This is his first time as head coach of an international team.
Silva Wants Hong Kong to Win
Silva will start with the Hong Kong senior men’s cricket team soon. His start date is about a month and a half before Hong Kong plays Afghanistan in the first game of the 2025 T20 Asia Cup.
Burji Shroff, the chairperson of Cricket Hong Kong, said in a statement that Silva’s talent development aligns with the board’s plan for Hong Kong cricket.
Silva said he’s happy to join the Hong Kong team. He wants to create a strong work ethic and a winning attitude for the players.

About Kaushal Silva
Kaushal Silva played 39 Tests for Sri Lanka from 2011 to 2018. He was part of the Sri Lanka Test team that won in England in 2014. He scored 2,099 runs in 74 Test innings, averaging 28.36, with three centuries and 12 half-centuries.
Hong Kong’s Asia Cup 2025 Schedule
Hong Kong is in Group B of the 2025 Asia Cup with Afghanistan, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka. Their first match is against Afghanistan on September 9.
They then play Bangladesh on September 11 and Sri Lanka on September 15 in the UAE.
