There’s still a lot of uncertainty about where the IPL 2025 match between Kolkata Knight Riders and Lucknow Super Giants will take place. Sourav Ganguly recently stated that the game is set to go on as planned in Kolkata and won’t be moved to Guwahati. There are reports suggesting that the match on April 6 is in jeopardy because of Ram Navmi, with police telling the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) that they can’t guarantee enough security due to the festival.
At an event in Kolkata, Ganguly, who is a former Indian captain and used to run the BCCI, pointed to a recent post from Kolkata Police to calm concerns about the match being moved from Eden Gardens. He said, “Just wait and see what happens next. Did you catch Kolkata Police’s post yesterday? I don’t think the match will be shifted. By the way, I’m rooting for Delhi Capitals in IPL.”
A BCCI official also mentioned that talks are ongoing with the police to ensure safe arrangements for the game. The Kolkata Police tweeted on Friday that there are “misleading posts out there about moving the match. They assured everyone that public safety is their top priority.
Interestingly, Ganguly’s comments came right after his brother, Snehasish Ganguly, who leads the CAB, mentioned that they asked the BCCI to change the date of the game. Snehasish said, “We’ve contacted the BCCI to reschedule the match, but since there’s no other date available in Kolkata, I’m hearing it might be moved to Guwahati.” He stressed, “Without police protection, handling a crowd of 65,000 would be tough.”
