South Africa’s Heinrich Klaasen is on top of his game at the moment, scoring fifties in the last five games. Yet, the wicketkeeper-batter has set his eyes on a larger goal during this Champions Trophy-to become the world’s best.
Stanley, the fourth in the ICC world rankings for batsmen in the ODIs, scored 64 runs off 56 balls, helping South Africa qualify for the semi-finals with a seven-wicket victory over England.
“I gave myself a challenge with (South Africa head coach) Rob Walter this trip. To be the best in the world,” said Klaasen in an interview with Sky Sports after the match in Karachi.
“I know I can play situations well and for me it important to keep hitting it on the ground for as long as possible, just like I did tonight.”
“I’m quite pleased with my innings tonight….standing still and just trusting in my technique. I know my swing is good so as long as it clicks, then I’m pretty happy.”
South Africa will take on New Zealand in the semi-final of the Champions Trophy on March 5.
